> My views on the much maligned Czech presidency of the EU are quoted by the Czech online journal e15.cz and then even get cited in the political commentary on Czech radio.Fame at last
>pity that they use you to support the nonsense, now dominant in CZ, that the problem of czech presidency was the fall of government (i.e. the evil act of the opposition bringing down the gov that refused to talk about conditions for tolerance during the presidency)
>Well, yes indeed – what else would expect? More cliched perhaps was the 'failure of elites' stuff, when this is indeed really a little local dificulty that wouldn't have raised an eyebrow if it had happened to some other presiding country and what opposition would have acted differently…Alas, most EU commentators seems to have decided beforehand that the Czechs were a nation of incompetent provincials and rapid eurosceptics and events conspired to seem to confirm that. The Czech national brand really does need re-inventing…Václav Bělohradský has a rather take on all this in his recent essay Nečitelná země http://bit.ly/gIzCRNot one of his best, admittedly, but with some more trenchant and interesting observations towards the end.
